ELECTRIC BIKE CARE - SOME INFORMATION ON YOUR NEW EBIKE
Congratulations on Your New Bike!
We have compiled a few important tips and recommendations. Please read through these to keep your bike in top condition. We have a blog where you can find tips, the links are included below in the title of each category.
If you’re not in Dublin, we have service partners in these locations:

CORK & BEARA PENINSULA: bicyclesolutionsireland.com
WATERFORD: altitude.ie
First Tune-Up
Schedule your first tune-up after 4 to 6 weeks of use. This ensures that all components are properly adjusted after the initial break-in period. The break-in period for a bicycle is a crucial phase after purchase, when components settle - gear cables stretch, brakes adjust. The first tune up will allow us to check that all components have bedded in properly.
Battery Care for Electric Bikes
Tips for optimal charging
The service life of lithium-ion batteries depends on many different factors, such as charging cycles and storage. Even when you're not using your eBike battery, it will gradually lose capacity.
-
Be sure to charge your battery with the original charger.Only charge your battery in a dry area that's fitted with a working smoke detector.
-
If possible, charge the battery at room temperature.
-
After charging, disconnect the battery and charger from the power supply.
-
Avoid regularly draining the battery down to zero.
The battery is equipped with a temperature monitor that only allows charging in the temperature range between 0°C and 40°C.
The battery can be charged in any charge state. Interrupting the charging process will not harm the battery.
Heat
Make sure to park the eBike in the shade or in a cool room. The eBike battery can be damaged at high temperatures, which is why excessive heating and direct sunlight should be avoided. The battery management system protects the battery from excessive operating temperatures and ensures safe operation.
Using the battery in winter
During winter use (particularly below 0°C) we recommend charging and storing the battery at room temperature before inserting the battery in the eBike just before riding it.
Storing the battery in winter
For longer storage we recommend:
-
Store the battery at a charge status of 30-60%.
-
Store the battery at room temperature, in a dry room.
-
Do not store the battery in the vicinity of combustible or flammable materials.
-
Store the battery in a room with a smoke detector installed.
Error Codes
-
The most common SHIMANO error is W013. This error is triggered by placing feet on the pedals when turning on the bike or moving the bike immediately while switching it on. To avoid this, ensure the bike is stationary and your feet are off the pedals when powering on the bike.
-
Bring the bike to us or send us an email with a pic of your screen when getting an error code - multiple error codes can put the system into a protective mode (called limp mode - when the system will not assist you in an efficient way).
Brakes
-
Never put oil or any lubricant on the rotors (discs) or pads. If your brakes are noisy, pull levers hard to break in the brakes in again or bring it to us.
-
Do not attempt to adjust hydraulic brakes yourself unless you are trained; seek professional assistance to avoid damage.
Regular maintenance
-
Chain oil: The chain should be oiled when starting to get dry. Do not put any W40 on your chain as it would dry it.
-
We recommend you bring your bike in every year for a service. Regular maintenance ensures bike safety, performance, and longevity.
-
Some parts on your bike will have to be replaced regularly (depending on how much the bike is used) such as tyres, brake pads, chain, cassette, cables or bearings.
-
Tyre inflation: This is the most important thing: keeping your cargo bike’s tyres pumped up helps them last longer, makes you less prone to punctures and lets the battery go further (up to 20% less range on soft tyres!)
Security and locks
-
We do not keep a database of frame numbers for our customers. We therefore recommend you keep your frame number, a proof of purchase and a picture of you and your bike in a secure place in case of theft.
-
Follow our tips when you leave the bike for any length of time and use two locks if possible. Your locks should be as hard to reach as possible, so that even with a cordless angle grinder it would be difficult to reach them.
By following these guidelines, you'll ensure a longer life and better performance for your bicycle. We remain at your disposal for any question you may have.
